2017 summer art workshops REFLECTIONS BY TEACHER JEZZA LUZANDE A couple of weeks ago, I was practicing an oil pastel technique when someone showed me how the material "should be used." He said he was taught this one method with it and he had stuck to this technique all his life. This is one of the reasons I enjoy teaching for Likhang Bata Creativity Center. ART APPRECIATION is the main objective of our art education, and in our Meet The Art Masters workshops, we introduce our students to the different styles of art masters (think Picasso, Van Gogh, Mondrian), and to different ways of creating art – Cubism, Impressionism, Non-Objective, etc. To name a few projects we did just this summer 2017, kids made their own stamps (Hokusai inspired) out of styro plates, made their own translucent sculptures ala Ramon Orlina (out of recycled materials) and made our own Pop Art illustrations like Roy Lichtenstein. Not only were they able to manipulate various art materials and create interesting projects, but they were also introduced to famous masters who helped mold the different styles of modern art and design today. IMAGES FROM TEACHER ANNA, JEZZA AND MICO'S CLASSES AT OUR PARTNER VENUES. Also in Likhang Bata, we encourage creative development. We guide kids in their natural curiosity and discourage neither erasures nor wasting materials. We believe that “…every child is an artist”. We teach that there is a purpose for every mistake and there is no one-way of doing things.
All in all, we hope that we were able to open the doors to more artistic/ creative opportunities for each of our students again. We are proud of their simple accomplishments this past summer. And we look forward to opening more creative minds this coming school year 2017-2018. We would like to thank our venue partners this April and May 2017 for helping us spread art appreciation to their wonderful students!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! 'Tis the season to share love and hope to everyone, especially to those who are in need. This Christmas season, LIKHANG BATA CREATIVITY CENTER (LBCC) welcomes a new partner - THE PHILIPPINE TOY LIBRARIES. What started out as an idea of friends to put together a room full of toys that children from indigent communities can go to and play, THE PHILIPPINE TOY LIBRARIES has now set-up 34 Toy Libraries all over the country from Culion, Palawan to Zamboanga City in Mindanao. Formally launched in June 12, 2012, Philippine Toy Library (PTL) transforms idle spaces in barangays, schools, parishes, and partner organizations into fun and educational playrooms for the children in the community. Last July 2015, LBCC's teacher Dindi was invited to join a group of individuals who were conducting a birthday party at a day care center and public toy library at the Payatas Compound, Quezon City. After meeting the beneficiary children and enjoying an afternoon of sharing and creating simple arts & craft projects, LBCC and point person Mr. Edsel Ramirez was able to discuss a possible collaboration. Then finally with solid plans coordinated with Mr. Quintin Pastrana, LBCC is now proud to be one of it's official partners in promoting creative learning by contributing used but still useful toys and children's books. If you wish to share your stash of old toys that are in good condition, or children's books that may still peak the interest of the younger generation, you may send them over to LIKHANG BATA CREATIVITY CENTER in 1107 Quezon City and we will take care of sorting, coordinating and delivering it to the different Toy Libraries all over the Philippines. The MAP FOR CLIMATE exhibit that opened last October 6, 2015 showcased a group exhibit where 50 upcoming or popular or young budding artists alike were able to share to an open audience their understanding of the issues surrounding climate change with some portraying literal steps on what these issues are, how it can be addresses and who is responsible in starting it. From the words of fellow artist/ good friend/ inspiring teacher, Toots Magsino..."Climate change is real. In our own microcosm, we have seen and experienced typhoons and unbelievable flooding brought on by our own negligence and indifference. This exhibition is a survey of the artists’ reflections on an issue that pervades our lives today...The choice is handed down to us. Do we aspire to build our lives on responsible stewardship of nature's bounty, or will we continue to contribute to the damage that the human race is capable of inflicting on the environment? As artist Jim Paredes aptly sums it up, “The path to the light while arduous must be taken. The light is waiting at the bend. Let us not give up now...” For complete photos during the event, check out this FACEBOOK album: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.481063858742269.1073741849.176305765884748&type=3 From May through July 2015, LCC has been around the Metro spreading the love for the arts and sharing creative development one event at a time.
